Overview
Located in Gunma Prefecture just two hours from Tokyo, Kawaba is a compact ski resort that punches above its weight with an impressive 900cm of annual snowfall. The resort's elevation ranges from 920m to 1,870m, providing nearly 1,000 meters of vertical drop across its terrain. This substantial snowfall and elevation gain make it a reliable destination throughout the winter season, offering consistently good snow conditions despite its proximity to the capital.
What makes Kawaba unique is its efficient layout and quality over quantity approach. With 10 runs serviced by 5 lifts, the resort is perfectly sized for day-trippers and weekend warriors who want to maximize their skiing without overwhelming crowds or complicated trail networks. OFF THE PISTE（オフザピステ） is a non-groomed, powder-focused attraction course with five entrances within the ski resort. Visitors must wear a wristband exchanged for a course-attendance certificate and carry Cocoheli. Cocoheli rental is available for 1100.

Lifts operate from 8:30～16:00 on weekdays and 8:00～16:00 on weekends and holidays. Indoor facilities open at 6:00, and night skiing is not available. There are no regular closing days during the operating period. One-day adult prices are 6500 on weekdays and 6800 on weekends and holidays. Reservation-based free shuttle buses run from 上毛高原駅 and 沼田駅. Parking is available 24 hours a day; the multi-storey parking area is free during the winter season, while weekend and holiday rates are 1,500 per vehicle for the multi-storey parking area, 1,000 for outdoor parking area 1, and free for outdoor parking areas 2～5. The resort does not permit guests to use drones or other remotely controlled aircraft, and pets are not permitted. Kids’ lessons are available from age 5. Emergency contact is available from 8:00～16:30 at 0278-52-3348.
